In 1980, César Alarcon travelled to Pompeii to record the sounds of the great historical eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Though he did not find what he was looking for, he unexpectedly recorded a strange comment from a far more recent time.
La ciudad de los signos is a journey through the works of Italian director Roberto Rossellini, whose films opened up the breach through which all of modern cinema would later pass. The sites he used for the locations of his motion pictures still bear the markings of the film shoots. Markings that become signs which form part of an immense abstract city that was built behind the backs of the living and the dead.
