When François, the postman, sees a documentary film about “The American Postal Service” which is being shown to celebrate the arrival of the fairgroung on the village square, he immediately realises that the reason the post doesn’t arrive quicker in Sainte-Sévère (or rather Follainville) is because the postal service is not applying “American methods”! François, however, will set this to rights. So, on your bike! On his ancient bike, baptised “coupé grand sport”, he charges off through the countryside, overtakes trailers laden with hay, careers around the corner of a cow but encounters a recalcitrant pole, an ignorant goat, a bothersome bee and a large number of glasses of white wine that bring his demonstration to a hasty end. It’s clear that the countryside doesn’t understand what progress is. Too bad for these rural folk, they’ll just have to make do with their post in the usual fashion. i.e. late.
