A Porcelanbaba” (Porcelain Doll)

Based on three chapters written by the famous Hungarian fabulist, Ervin Lázár. The story takes place at a Tanya (a farm) somewhere in Hungary. Some earthy, lovable farmers living there by their own laws at least until they come up against the laws of the surrounding world. Time to time they are visited by some strangers and than the hell comes… Death and destruction, hatred and envy, shame and lie are coming in hand with them. Strangers are always causing trouble at this Tanya…. Resurrections, magical villages, music and bureaucratic bogs ensue. In the first fairytale, a teen trounces visiting soldiers in a series of athletic contests; in the second, a state official claims he can resurrect the dead; and in the third, an aging couple tricks the authorities who’re trying to make them relocate in this allegorical film… Magical realism abounds in the three fables of Hungarian rural life that make up this film.
